When student progress stalls, pressure and criticism rise fast. Too many school leaders are pushed into survival mode, working harder without seeing meaningful gains. That’s not a leadership flaw. The problem rests with the approach to school improvement.
Early in my journey as a teacher leader, that frustration nearly pushed me out of education. We were putting in the effort, but the results weren’t there. What changed everything was realizing that school improvement fails when the approach ignores the full system behind implementation. That realization led me to develop a signature, systems-based methodfor leading improvement, and once that shifted, the results followed.
Using this approach, I’ve led school improvement efforts across multiple school divisions, producing double-digit gains, performance above state averages, and measurable progress for students with the greatest need...not by working to the point of burnout, but by doing the right work in the right order.
Today, I help school leaders drive improvement efforts with greater impact through my signature method because survival mode certainly won't.
